Causes of Depression

  • Experiencing life changes like from better to worst, stress, trauma, physical ailments and medications. Medications can include drugs prescribed for controlling high blood pressure, for treating asthma, for help to abstain from smoking cessation.
  • Serious medical illnesses, such as heart diseases and diabetes also associates with higher rates of depression
  • Sexual abuse also links to higher rates of depression

Types of Depression

  1. Persistent depressive disorder:  It’s also called dysthymia, and it lasts at least two years. it is not as severe as major depression but it can interfere with a person’s life and relationships with persistence symptoms of loss of interest in daily activities and always feeling hopeless.

2. Perinatal or Postpartum depression: This depression refers to major depression that some      women experience during pregnancy or after delivery. Symptoms include extreme sadness, crying, anxiety, appetite disturbance and getting exhaustion can make it difficult to handle challenges of pregnancy and caring for a new child.

3. Psychotic Depression: This is major depression and its symptoms are; hallucinations and delusion and these are related to the person’s depressed feelings, like hearing strange voices telling you that you don’t deserve to live.

3. Seasonal affective disorder: Referred to as winter depression. it works with the changing seasons and it is not versatile. Treatment includes: light therapy that is exposure to artificial light, and then medication formally prescribed for depression

4. Depression occurring with bipolar disorder: it causes your mood to change, also experiencing changes in sleep patterns and activity levels.

Diagnosis and Treatment for Depression

Health experts advise people to seek for professional help so that they can be properly diagnosed and treated. Anyone having suicidal talks and experiencing psychosis should be helped immediately, so thats why you are shown a guide
