  1. Provision of raw materials for agro-allied industries
  2. Provision of employment

iii. Development of rural areas, etc

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

relate agro-allied industries to their respective raw materials

relate the various contributions of Agriculture to economic development in West Africa.

  1. Agricultural Ecology

Topics:

  1. Ecological zones of West Africa
  2. Agricultural products of each ecological zone
  3. Environmental factors and their effects on crop and livestock production

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

differentiate between the features of the ecological zones in West Africa.

classify agricultural products according to each ecological zone.

differentiate abiotic from biotic factors affecting agricultural production.

  1. Genetics

Topics:

  1. First and second laws of Mendel
  2. Cell division
  3. Terminologies e.g locus, alleles, genotype, dominance

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

apply the first and second laws of Mendel to genetics.

differentiate between the types of cell division.

  1. determine the outcome of genetic crossing involving homozygous and heterozygous traits.
  2. compute simple probability ratios
  3. Farm Inputs

Topics:

e.g. planting materials, agrochemicals, e.t.c.

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

(i) classify different types of farm inputs and their uses.

  1. History of Agricultural Development in West

Africa

Topics:

  1. Agricultural systems e.g. shifting cultivation, bush fallowing e.t.c
  2. Problems of Agricultural development e.g land tenure systems, inadequate infrastructures, finance for agriculture, pollution

etc.

  1. Establishment of national research institutes e.g. NCRI, IAR, IAR&T, CRIN, NIFOR, FRIN, RRI, NRCRI, NIHORT, LCRI,

e.t.c. and international research institutes e.g. IITA, ILRI, ICRISAT, WARDA e.t.c., leading to increased application of science

to the development of agriculture.

  1. Agricultural Development Projects (ADPs) e.g. RTEP, FADAMA etc.
  2. National agricultural programmes such as OFN, NAFPP, NALDA, Green Revolution, NCRPs, NARP, Project Coordinating.

JAMB Syllabus for Principles of Accounts

 

The aim of this JAMB Accounts Syllabus for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), is to prepare the

candidates for the Board’s examination. It is designed to test their achievement of the course objectives, which are to:

  1. Stimulate and sustain their interest in Principles of Accounts;
  2. Use the basic knowledge of and practical skills in Accounting;
  3. Apply the knowledge and interpretation of accounting information to decision making;
  4. Determine the relevance of accounting information to business and governments;
  5. Use information and communication technology for present and future challenges.
  6. Use current accounting principles in financial reporting.
  7. Nature and Significance of Accounting

a.Development of accounting (including branches of accounting)

  1. Objectives of bookkeeping and accounting;
  2. Users and characteristics of Accounting information
  3. Principles, concepts and conventions of accounting (nature, significance and application)
  4. Role of accounting records and information

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

  1. differentiate between bookkeeping and accounting;
  2. use the historical background of bookkeeping and accounting for future development;

iii. apply the right principles, concepts and conventions to solving accounting problems;

  1. examine the role of accounting records and information in decision making.
  2. List the branches of Accounting such as Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing, Financial Accounting and

Taxation.

  1. Principles of Double Entry

Topics:

  1. Functions of source documents
  2. Books of original entry
  3. The ledger and its classifications
  4. Trial balance
  5. Types and treatment of errors and uses of suspense account

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

  1. relate the various source documents to their uses;
  2. relate source documents to the various books of original entry;

iii. determine the effect of changes in elements of accounting equation;

  1. identify the role of double entry and use it to post transactions into various divisions of the ledger;
  2. balance off ledger accounts;
  3. extract a trial balance from balances and determine its uses;

vii. identify various types of errors and their necessary corrections;

viii. create a suspense account.

  1. Ethics in Accounting

Topics:

  1. Objectives
  2. Qualities of an Accountant

Objectives:

Candidates should be able to:

  1. use ethics in preparing and presenting Accounting Reports;
  2. list qualities of an Accountant such as honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability and fairness.
  3. Cashbook

Topics:

  1. Columnar cashbooks
  2. Discounts
  3. Petty cashbook and the imprest system
