6 Steps on How to Remove Malware From Your Windows PC

Below are the steps to take in order to  Remove Malware From Your Windows PC:

Step One: Go to the Safe Mode

The first major step to take is to quit operating your system especially accessing the internet for the time being. That is because the more you operate and access, the malware keeps on spreading through your private files thereby causing more damage to your PC.

So all you need do is to boot your PC into the Microsoft’s Safe Mode. Just like the Ultra mode in Android phone, the safe mode enables you to load only minimum required programs. If your PC runs very faster when it’s in this mode, then you know it has a malware infection. This mode prevents any more malware from entering your windows when it automatically starts. Unlike Windows 7 and Windows 8, Windows 10 has another method of booting into Windows Safe Mode. They are listed below:

  1. First, you have to ‘click the start button’
  2. Select the power button like you want to reboot (you don’t have to click just yet).
  3. The next thing you need do is to hold down the shift key and click ‘Restart’.
  4. On the full-screen menu; select Troubleshooting, then to Advanced Options, and finally the startup settings.

Step Two: Delete unused files

Before scanning your PC, you have to delete the unused files which are temporarily installed as this may speed up the virus scanning and free up disk space. To do this, after pressing the ‘Start button’ you then have to select the tool that appears ‘Disk Cleanup’.

Step Three: Download malware scanners

If you already have an antivirus program active on your computer, you need to use a different scanner for this malware check, because malware scanner helps to remove antivirus in your PC, since your current antivirus software may not have detected the malware.

Step Four: Scan with Malwarebytes

After downloading Malwarebytes, run the setup file and follow the wizard to install the program. Once the program opens, it will automatically activate a trial of the paid version that enables real-time scanning.

To run a scan, switch from the Dashboard tab to the Scan tab. Keep the default scan option “Threat Scan” selected and click the ‘Start Scan button’.  Malwarebytes recommends that you perform the threat scan first, as that scan usually finds all of the infections anyway.

While Malwarebytes is scanning, you can see how many files or objects the software has already scanned, and how many of those files it has identified either as being malware or as being infected by malware. Once the scan is complete, Malwarebytes will show you the results.

If Malwarebytes does find infections, it’ll show you what they are when the scan is complete. Click the “Remove Selected button” in the lower left to get rid of the specified infections. Malwarebytes may also prompt you to restart your PC in order to complete the removal process, which you should do

Step Five: Fix your web browser

Another common mean is to modify your web browser’s homepage to re-infect the PC, display advertisements, and prevent browsing. Before you launch your web browser, check your homepage and connection settings.

You can fix your internet explorer by Right-clicking the Windows 10 Start button and select the ‘Control Panel’. Then Find the Home Page settings in the General tab, and verify that it’s not some site you know nothing about.

For Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, simply go to the ‘settings window’ of your browser to check your homepage

Step Six: Files Recovery

If you can’t seem to remove the malware or if Windows isn’t working properly, you may have to reinstall Windows. But before wiping your hard drive, copy all of your files to an external USB or flash drive. Make sure you export your settings and messages to save them or in case back them up.

If Windows won’t start or work well enough to permit you to back up your files, you may create and use Live CD to access your files. Once you have backed up everything, reinstall Windows either from the disc that came with your PC, by downloading the installation image from Microsoft or by using your PC’s factory restore option.
